What is the Shinano Railway Cycle Train?

【Outbound Route】

Depart from Karuizawa and explore the history and cuisine of the old roads of Nakasendo and Hokkoku Kaido by bicycle, guided tour, heading towards Hokkoku Kaido's "Umino-shuku" (Important Traditional Building Preservation District).

【Return Route】

Depart from Shinano Railway Tanaka Station and easily travel by train to Karuizawa Station! This is a tour where you can enjoy the cycle train.

What is Nakasendo?

"Nakasendo" is one of the five major old roads established during the Edo period in Japan. It connects Edo (modern-day Tokyo) at Nihonbashi with Kyoto at Sanjo Ohashi, passing through inland routes.

What is Hokkoku Kaido?

"Hokkoku Kaido" is a branch road that diverges from Nakasendo and leads to Zenkoji Temple, serving as a path of pilgrimage. It is also considered an important old roads, known as the "Golden Road," connecting Sado and Echigo to Edo, following Nakasendo as one of the key routes.
